In a bid to bridge the existing communication gaps between schools and guardians, the Odisha government has planned to introduce a notebook system, similar to the diary system followed by private schools, for government school students from the current academic year.
School and Mass Education Department Minister, Samir Ranjan Dash announced this on Saturday.

The government has been planning to distribute the notebook to students across the state. This will go a long way in bridging the communication gap between teachers and parents/guardians of students, Dash added.

The announcement comes a day after the Odisha Budget where the education and skill development sector saw a 10 percent rise in the budgetary allocation at Rs 30,030 crore for 2023-24 as compared to the previous budget.

Speaking to the media, Dash said, “We are planning to introduce notebooks for the students in government schools like private schools. The notebooks will maintain the homework of the students, school activities and other extra happenings in the student's life.”

“This is the main focus of ‘Mo School Yojana’. The education sector is the main focus area of CM Naveen Patnaik,” he added.

The notebook, like it is done in private schools, will be a source of information to the guardians regarding the academic activities and homework of their children. Apart from academic activities, the notebook will also contain details of holidays, school programs, emergency phone numbers, and details of teachers.

All the students are expected to get the notebook in all the government schools. Teachers will put their remarks regarding the students in the notebook and parents will check the progress of their children.

Meanwhile, the Odisha government has proposed a new scheme ‘Mukhya Mantri Medhabi Chhatrabruti Yojana’ for meritorious students in the state. This was announced during the presentation of the Budget for the financial year 2023-24 on Friday. Around 10,000 eligible undergraduates will get a stipend of Rs 10,000 per annum under the scheme.

Similarly, 5000 eligible PG students will avail scholarship of Rs 15,000 per annum while another 10,000 eligible Technical and Professional students will get a scholarship of Rs 20,000 per annum.

Moreover, the government has announced free coaching for 200 meritorious students for the Civil Services examination with free lodging and boarding facilities.
