Not June 18, Odisha schools to reopen on this date; check latest notification

The Odisha government has officially postponed the reopening of schools for the academic session after summer vacation. Originally scheduled for June 18, schools across the state will now reopen on June 20, 2025.

In a letter addressed to all District Education Officers (DEOs), the School and Mass Education Department informed that the revised date was decided considering the prevailing weather conditions, especially the high temperatures and the ongoing transition into the monsoon season. 

“In partial modification of the instructions, it is to inform you that the date of reopening of the schools may be read as 20.06.2025 instead of 18.06.2025. All other instructions communicated vide the letters shall stand as such,” the letter read. 

MDM From Day 1

Meanwhile, the Odisha government has directed all the District Education Officers (DEO) to serve mid-day meals (MDM) to all the students from the first day of the reopening of schools after the summer vacation.

In a letter to all the DEOs, the School and Mass Education Department directed all the schools to serve MDM to every child (6 to 14 years) attending school from June 20.

Revised Schedule Due to Heat Conditions?

Several parts of Odisha continue to witness high temperatures and humidity. To ensure the safety of students, especially younger children, the decision has been taken as a precautionary measure. Some districts may also implement morning school timings (6:30 AM to 10:30 AM) in the initial days following reopening to avoid peak daytime heat. However, there has been no official confirmation in this regard.

COVID-19 and Health Protocols to Continue

Although the immediate threat of the COVID-19 pandemic has subsided, schools have been advised to remain vigilant. Hygiene practices such as regular hand washing, availability of drinking water, and medical monitoring will be in place to maintain a healthy environment for students and staff.
