Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government on Saturday clarified that there will be no physical classroom teaching in any universities or colleges but only online classes will resume after the end of summer vacation next week.

The State Higher Education Department took to Twitter to make the major announcement just a day after it declared that all the varsities and colleges under its jurisdiction will restart functioning from June 1.

"After the end of summer vacation, Universities and Degree Colleges (under Higher Education Department) shall resume ONLINE classes from 1st June’ 2021. Physical classroom teaching shall not commence now," the Higher Education Department informed through the statement.

As per the announcement, hostels of the institutes will remain closed till further order. The government has said that the schedule of examination will be communicated soon based on the decision of the UGC.

Earlier on May 4, the government had announced summer vacation for all higher educational institutions starting from May 5 to May 31 this year. The Higher Education department had allowed the conduct of interviews of PhD and other research scholars on scheduled dates, however, online classes and examinations were not held during the summer vacation period.

The decision by the government not to allow physical classroom teaching comes in the wake of a steady trend of Coronavirus infections in the State.
