NCERT proposes to include Class 9 to 11 marks in Class 12 final results
The National Council of Educational Research and Training, NCERT is currently deliberating a significant proposal to revamp the evaluation system for Class 12 board exams.
The proposal suggests incorporating marks from Class 9, 10 and 11 into the final Class 12 results, a move aimed at providing a more comprehensive assessment of students' academic journey.
Class 9: 15% of the marks
Class 10: 20% of the marks
Class 11: 25% of the marks
Class 12: The remaining 40% of the marks
This integration aims to create a more holistic assessment of a student's academic journey, reflecting their performance over multiple years rather than just the final year.
NCERT's proposal suggests dividing examinations into two categories:
Formative Assessments: These will include projects, group discussions, and teacher assessments.
Summative Assessments: These will be conducted at the end of the academic year, similar to the current final exams.
Class 9: Formative (70%) + Summative (30%)
Class 10: Formative (50%) + Summative (50%)
Class 11: Formative (40%) + Summative (60%)
Class 12: Formative (30%) + Summative (70%)
This proposed system emphasizes continuous evaluation, aiming to reduce stress on students by distributing the weight of final assessments across multiple years. If implemented, these changes could significantly alter the landscape of secondary education in India.
