The Higher Education Department, Government of Odisha, on Monday wrote letters to the Vice Chancellors of all the Universities coming under the Higher Education department asking them to implement the National Cadet Crops (NCC) as a ‘General Elective Course’ at Under Graduate (UG) level from the academic session 2023-24.

In his letter, Rajata Kumar Mansingh, Deputy Director, Performance & Tracking Cell (PTC), said, “After careful consideration, Government has been pleased to introduce NCC as one of the General Elective Courses in all Universities and Autonomous Colleges of the State as per model syllabus prescribed by UGC at under Graduate Level.”

“Therefore, you are requested to adopt ‘NCC’ as a General Elective Credit Course in the curriculum at Under Graduate Level from the Academic Session 2023-24 after the approval by their respective statutory academic bodies such as Board of Studies and Academic Council,” read the letter.

Notably, RD Women’s University has already implemented it and has been offering 12 credit NCC courses. A committee has been formed to look into various aspects including the course syllabus.
