IAS Tina Dabi, the UPSC topper of 2016, is a prominent figure in India. She is a well-known face today, thanks to the tireless efforts of her parents. While Tina Dabi’s achievements have been well known, not many know about her mother Himali Kamble Dabi who was also an UPSC topper during her time.

Yes, you read that right! IAS Tina Dabi’s mother Himali had also cracked the UPSC exam. She is now a retired Indian Engineering Services (IES) officer. She took voluntary retirement to guide her daughters Tina Dabi and Ria Dabi to become IAS officers.

Tina's mother hails from Maharashtra while her father is a native of Madhya Pradesh. They both were in Government service: Indian Telecom Service (father) and Indian Economic Service (Mother). Later, their mother took voluntary retirement from the service.

Himali played a pivotal role in the success of both her daughters Tina and Ria and making them the country’s best IAS officers. While Tina Dabi is known as the topper of the UPSC 2016, her sister Ria Dabi holds the position of Assistant Collector in Alwar, Rajasthan.

She had secured an impressive All India Rank (AIR)-15 in UPSC 2020. Her husband is IPS Manish Kumar who also cleared the exam in the same year. The couple tied the knot in a private ceremony following a low-affair court marriage in April 2023.

Manish Kumar also subsequently transferred to Rajasthan to be close with his wife Ria Dabi. On the other hand, Tina Dabi is currently serving as the District Collector and Magistrate in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan. After her divorce from Athar Aamir, she is currently married to IAS Pradeep Gawande. The couple is blessed with a baby boy.

Tina met Pradeep, a 2013 batch IAS officer during the Covid-19 pandemic and the duo fell in love. She married Pradeep in April 22 in a private ceremony in Rajasthan in the presence of close friends and family members.
During an interview, Tina’s mother Himali emphasised, “It’s not easy to prepare for the UPSC exam. It is very tough. So, I took voluntary retirement to guide my kids.”

On the other hand, both Tina and Ria have time and again credited their mother for their success.

Worth mentioning, Himali Dabi was also a topper at Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology, Bhopal.
