Berhampur: The fate of the Khallikote Cluster University has been sealed after the Odisha Government began process for amalgamating it with the Berhampur University on Tuesday.

The Odisha Higher Education department shot a letter to the Finance department informing the same and urged for continuation of the former Comptroller of Finance of the University till September 30, 2021.

As per the letter, the Khallikote Cluster University that was accredited with University status by the Odisha government in 2015, will once again be stripped of the badge and will be amalgamated with the Berhampur University with effect from October 1, 2021.

“After upgrading Khallikote Autonomous College to the status of a unitary University, the State Government has decided to amalgamate the existing Khallikote University with Berhampur University with effect from October 1, 2021,” the letter read.

Urging to post a Comptroller of Finance (CoF) at the University, the Higher Education department wrote, “Minati Sahu, OFS (SB), Comptroller of Finance of Khallikote University has been transferred and posted as Accounts Officer in MKCG Hospital, Berhampur. Since the presence of the CoF is extremely essential for smooth amalgamation of Khallikote University with Berhampur University, it is sincerely requested to allow Sahu to function as CoF of Khallikote University till September 30, 2021.”

The department further requested that, “With effect from October 1, 2021, the OFS cadre post of CoF (Khallikote Cluster University) may be abolished and, in lieu of it, the post of CoF (Khallikote Unitary University) may be created in the OFS cadre.”

It is pertinent to mention here that, the Odisha government had formed Khallikote Cluster University in May 2015, by altering the territorial jurisdiction of Berhampur University to which Khallikote College, Binayak Acharya College, Gopalpur College, SBRG College and Government Science College were affiliated.

However in February this year, the State government had turned the Khallikote Autonomous College into a Unitary University to make it focused more on intensive research activities, effectively rendering the existing Khallikote Cluster University that was running in a rented house, useless.
