JEE Advanced 2025: IIT Kanpur increases attempt limit, announces eligibility criteria

IIT Kanpur raises the attempt limit for JEE Advanced 2025 to three, revising eligibility. Candidates must rank in JEE Main's top 2.5 lakh. Age and previous IIT admission criteria apply.

JEE Advanced 2025

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kanpur, has increased the attempt limit to appear in the JEE Advanced 2025 examination to three times in three consecutive years. Previously, the candidates were allowed only two attempts in two consecutive years.

Besides, it has also announced the eligibility criteria to appear in the examination. 

Eligibility Criteria for JEE Advanced 2025

Performance in JEE (Main) 2025: The candidate to be eligible to appear for JEE Advanced, they should be in the top 2,50,000 successful candidates in JEE Main 2025.

The shortlisting of candidates for qualifying will be based on a category-wise percentage distribution. 

GEN-EWS: 10%
OBC-NCL: 27%
SC: 15%
ST: 7.5%
The remaining 40.5% of seats will be available to all candidates. 

Age Limit: Candidates should not be born before October 1, 2000. However, the upper age limit relaxation for reserved categories, i.e. SC, ST, and PwD candidates is 5 years. Aspirants belonging to these categories should have been born on or after October 1, 1995.

Number of attempts: A candidate will be allowed to attempt JEE (Advanced) for a maximum of three times in three consecutive years.

Appearance in Class XII (or equivalent) examination: A candidate should have appeared for the Class XII (or equivalent) examination for the first time in 2023, 2024, or 2025, with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as mandatory subjects. 

Earlier admission at IITs: A candidate should not have previously been admitted to any IIT under any academic program listed in the JoSAA Business Rules of 2024 or earlier, regardless of whether the candidate continued in the program or accepted an IIT seat by reporting online or at a reporting centre in the past.
