Inspired by APJ Abdul Kalam, IPS Tripti Bhatt rejected 16 govt job offers to crack UPSC in first attempt
IAS Kanishak Kataria’s journey from an IIT alumnus to becoming an IAS officer is surely an inspiration for many UPSC aspirants. The brilliant officer left his high-paying job to prepare for UPSC and secured an All Indian Rank 1 in 2019 and is currently posted as SDO, Ramganj Mandi, Kota.
Hailing from Rajasthan, Kanishak completed his schooling from St. Paul’s Sr. Sec. School in Kota. A bright and academically inclined student from the beginning, Kataria secured 44th rank in the IIT JEE 2010 and got into the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay where he pursued B.Tech Honours in Computer Science and Minors in Applied Statistics.
His first job was as a data scientist at Samsung Company in South Korea. After working there for quite some time, he shifted to Bengaluru to work with an American startup company. It was a comfortable and high-paying job, but one fine day he decided to quit.
Instead of joining some other company for a higher pay scale, he decided to prepare for UPSC. He joined a coaching centre in Delhi for seven to eight months and then returned home for self-study. Later, with his hard work, he secured All India Rank 1 in 2019.
During an interview, Kataria said that he completely cut himself from social media and put all his focus into preparation. He is a sports lover and an expert in artificial intelligence and machine learning.
