The National Law University, Odisha (NLUO) is all set to launch a ‘Mediation Cell’. NLUO’s Centre for Mediation and Negotiation (CMN) will set up the Mediation Cell, which is the first of its kind in India.

The dedicated mediation cell will be inaguarted on August 15, 2022. Various legal disputes including family, matrimonial, property, land and consumer disputes are likely to be resolved through mediation with the help of faculties-cum-trained mediators.

NLUO is looking forward to collaborate with other centres and other organisations in this regard. The cell will focus on people from nearby places and will gradually extend to the whole state and provide free mediation services both physically and virtually through Online Dispute Resolution (ODR).

The NLUO Mediation Cell is touted to be the first institutional-run mediation cell in the country which will provide live-mediation services (both private and court-referred mediation). The objective is to achieve the constitutional goal of access to justice and free legal aid.

With the establishment of NLUO Mediation Cell, the premier institution is also not far from achieving the SDG 16 under UN Sustainable Development Goals 2030, i.e., Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions.
