The University Grants Commission (UGC) has invited proposals for development of Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) at Under Graduate (UG) and Post Graduate (PG) level for the SWAYAM platform on the six pillars of India’s Artic Policy (IAP).

The proposals have been sought on- Science and Research, Climate and Environmental Protection, Economic and Human Development, Transportation and Connectivity, Governance and International Cooperation and National Capacity Building.

In a letter, the UGC has asked the vice-chancellors of universities, IIT directors and principals of all colleges to submit proposals by May 15, 2022.

It is pertinent to mention here that the Government of India had released India's Arctic Policy titled 'India and the Arctic: Building a Partnership for Sustainable Development' on March 17, 2022.

It is believed that India’s Arctic Policy would play an essential role in preparing the country for a future, where humankind’s biggest challenges, like climate change, can be addressed through collective will and effort.

In its letter, UGC stated that a decision to generate course content on Artic/ Polar Studies for inclusion on SWAYAM platform was taken on the basis of a meeting held at National Security Council Secretariat.
