  • The Government of India has so far sanctioned Rs. 1,260 Crore for the creation of the institute’s infrastructure in two phases.

Union Education Minister, Dharmendra Pradhan on Friday inaugurated the ‘Pushpagiri Lecture Hall Complex’ and ‘Rushikulya Hall’ at the IIT Bhubaneswar campus.

This is a part of the mega ongoing expansion project which is being undertaken by the IIT Bhubaneswar. The Rushikulya Hall Of Residence is a hostel having 800-single rooms to provide accommodation for students, official sources said.

The Government of India has so far sanctioned Rs. 1,260 Crore for the creation of the institute’s infrastructure in two phases. As part of the infrastructure development, the institute has now got modern lecture hall complex built at an estimated cost of Rs. 148 Crore with total floor area of 26,354 square meters.

“With focus on world-class research and innovation, our IITs have indeed become the symbol of the progress of India and success in higher education. Our IITs are amongst the world’s top universities and are contributing to global technological needs. The added infrastructure facilities will enable the students to strive for greater excellence,” said Pradhan in a tweet.

Director, IIT Bhubaneswar, Prof Raja Kumar said, “The state of the art lecture halls serve as e-classrooms wherein live streaming of lectures with interaction can be done with lecture recording facility and can be used for conventional classes. The lecture halls are designed to work with air-conditioning as well as natural ventilation during the winter months. The flipped class room complex is one of the foremost in the country and it can be used for conventional lectures, group tasks, individual work comprising study/browsing, design, analysis, problem solving, assignment, interacting with teacher.”

Meanwhile, A PIB release said that on the occasion, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed by Prof. R.V. Raja Kumar, Director, IIT Bhubaneswar and Shri Ranjan Kumar Mohapatra, Chairman, Skill Development Institute Bhubaneswar for enhancing skill development activities among unemployed, under-employed and underprivileged youth in the State with technical education relevant to the industry under the expertise and guidance of IIT Bhubaneswar.
