It is rightly said that failure is the pillar of success. It is mostly believed that only academically brilliant people can crack the UPSC civil services exam. But, the results of aspirants, over the years, have proved that hard work, dedication, and sheer determination despite failures are the reasons behind success.

One such shining example is IAS Anurag Kumar from the Katihar district of Bihar. Due to the financial constraints of his family, he had to attend a Hindi medium till Class 8. Later, his parents decided to transfer him to an English Medium.

However, it wasn’t easy for Anurag to cope with English and he had a tough time. However, he worked hard, studied dedicatedly, and finally passed Class 10 Board Exams with 90% marks. He also did well at his intermediate and got admission to the prestigious Shri Ram College of Commerce, Delhi.

The years of graduation brought the most learning lessons for Anurag as he failed in the graduation. He wasn’t able to pass many subjects in his first two years of graduation. This was a huge setback and a life-changing experience for him.

He decided to work hard and studied diligently after his failure and decided to do his post-graduation. It was during his post-graduation days, he decided to prepare for UPSC. Thus, began his UPSC preparation with complete dedication and hard work.

His hard work paid off and he secured AIR-677 in his very first attempt in 2017. However, he was not satisfied with his rank as he wanted to become an IAS. So, Anurag began his preparations again and secured an impressive AIR-48 in his second attempt in UPSC CSE 2018.

Today, he is an inspiration for many and is currently posted as the Assistant District Officer in Bettiah district.
