Success stories of UPSC aspirants are full of grit, perseverance and sacrifice. The life journey of IAS officer Anu Kumari is one such example of pure determination and dedication. Anu Kumari was already a mother of a toddler boy when she made up her mind to take up the daunting task of UPSC preparation.

This meant she had to stay away from her child to fulfill her dreams. She took the hardest decision of her life and stayed away from her child. Her hard work finally paid off and she secured an All India Rank (AIR)-2 to become an IAS officer.

Hailing from Sonipat in Haryana, Anu Kumari graduated with a BSc (Hons) in Physics from Delhi University. She later went on to do her MBA in Finance and Marketing from IMT, Nagpur. Soon she got a high-paying job at a private company.

After marriage in 2012, she took a transfer to Gurugram with her husband and soon became a mother of a child. However, her inner call was to become an IAS officer. After hearing her inner call, she decided to leave her high-paying job and pursue her dream of becoming an IAS officer.

“My job was good, but there was no internal satisfaction. It all became so mechanical that at one point I could not take it anymore,” the IAS officer was quoted as saying by the Hindustan Times.

However, she had another daunting task ahead of her. She had to stay away from her son. She made her choice and stayed away from her son for almost two years. However, success wasn’t served on a platter to her.

Anu Kumari failed in her first attempt by just one mark. She was heartbroken but didn’t lose her determination. Finally, she secured AIR-2 in her second attempt and is currently one of the most loved IAS officers in the country.
