Various sections of teachers in Dhenkanal have expressed dissatisfaction over the recent decision of the district education office to put teachers of some particular subjects on duties in other subjects.

Notably, the district education office of the district on Thursday issued a letter to the heads of all types of high schools asking them to utilise the services of Hindi, Classical tutors and those imparting classes in the subjects of Physical Education to also teach some other subjects.

In its communiqué to the schools, the administration noted that since Hindi, Classical and PE teachers are taking less number of classes on day to day basis and hence they may be asked to impart extra classes preferably Odia, History, Geography etc. for equalization of routine work.

The education office has also asked the schools to report in case of any deviation without any delay.

Now even though the move by the authorities has triggered protest in general, teachers have so far not come out open against the decision.

Meanwhile, when asked, Dhenkanal district education officer Nibedita Pani did not make any direct clarification but rather said that the order is not mandatory for teachers.

Pani said that the directive has been issued to ensure that Hindi, Classical and Physical Education teachers can take other classes when teachers of the concerned subjects remain absent.
