Ministry of Home Affairs
The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) recently introduced a new category, ‘G20 Talent Visa’, under the sub-category (S-5) of the Student Visa framework.
As per official sources, the new visa category will facilitate the entry of scientists, researchers, faculty members, scholars, and academicians from G20 member countries to India for several purposes. This mainly includes for the purpose of undertaking projects, participating in training programs, engaging in post-doctoral research, and pursuing fellowships, among other academic and research-related activities.
Who Will Benefit?
The Ministry of Home Affairs has clearly stated that the granting of the 'G20 Talent Visa' will be based on a reference list of institutions, which includes those institutions listed under the University Grants Commission (UGC), All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), and Ministry of Education funded technical institutions, such as IITs, NITs, IIMs, ISc, IISERs, IIITs, NITTTRS,
as well as institutions of National Importance (INIs).
This will help facilitate academic and research collaborations with international scholars, thus fostering growth in research and academic excellence.
According to experts, the G20 Talent Visa will enable international scholars from G20 countries to participate in diverse projects across science, technology, and academia.
Moreover, it is also expected to project and position India as a major destination for academic achievers, facilitating cutting-edge research and nurturing young minds through research related collaborations.
