He was only 3 years old when he lost his mother. His father worked in a Gulf country and could not leave his job to care for him, nor could he bring his son along. Thus, at the age of four, his father made the difficult decision to send him to a hostel.

Tragically, his father also passed away when he was just 13 years old. With no other family members, he grew up like an orphan in the hostel. Despite these personal tragedies, he persevered through all obstacles and eventually cleared the UPSC.

This remarkable story belongs to Akash Chavda from Jamnagar, Gujarat. Akash has passed the highly coveted UPSC exam without any formal coaching. Hailing from a humble background, Chavda’s journey to success is a beacon of hope for aspirants from poor backgrounds. He has proved that with unwavering commitment, even the toughest challenges can be conquered.

After the death of both his parents, Chavda was living as an orphan in the hostel. However, he got a family after his cousin, a hardworking mason, came as a new ray of hope for him. The hardworking man not only provided Chavda with a home but also lent enormous support for his schooling and graduation.

“My cousins were everything to me. They taught me, gave me shelter and raised me like their own child,” Chavda told Indian Masterminds.

After his schooling, Chavda went on to pursue Engineering. It was during his engineering days, he first learned about the UPSC Civil Services and was determined to clear it. His first attempt was in 2019 when he managed to clear Prelims but could not crack the Mains.

After his failure, he decided to prepare for Gujarat PCS. However, he experience failure there too. Despite continuous failures, Akash never gave up and finally cracked the UPSC Group C exam in 2022 and became a State Tax Inspector.

With a good job to support his family, Akash continued his UPSC preparation with much determination and dedication. His perseverance paid off when he cleared the UPSC exam on his third attempt. Today, he has made his dead parents proud and also his cousin who accepted him when he had no one.
