Students belonging to the Biju Patnaik University of Technology (BPUT) Students' Association on Monday called on the Skill Development and Technical Education Minister of Odisha, Premananda Nayak, urging the latter to reopen technical institutions in the State.

Schools and colleges in the States are reopened now. So the technical educational institutions should now be reopened, the students demanded.

“All technical institutions in the State should now reopen with all Covid-19 norms in place,” said Ananta Narayan Jena, a student.

After meeting with the students, the Minister said a decision in this regard will be taken soon after meeting with the concerned authorities.

“A meeting of all concerned authorities will be convened soon and the date for reopening of technical institutions will be finalised soon,” said Nayak.

Notably, all educational institutes in Odisha remained close for months in view of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Meanwhile, the Odisha government’s decision to resume classroom teaching in schools from later part of this month has put both students and guardians in quandary due to fear of Covid-19 infection as inoculation drive against the virus is yet to cover school goers. On the other hand, students of higher educational institutions also want the resumption of physical classes in colleges and universities.
