Even though online application process for BEd, BHED and MED is all set to start from June 1 in Odisha, the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) has not yet given its approval for all the seats.

As per reports, the State Higher Education Department has issued a notification to accept online application forms for admission in a total of 2,350 seats in different BEd colleges across the State.

However, NCTE is yet to approve 1700 seats and the department is still in a fix. If NCTE doesn’t give its approval to 1700 seats, only 650 students will be able to get admission.

The State has a total of 15 BEd colleges and they account for 1750 seats. Among those institutions, Radhanath Institute Of Advanced Studies in Education in Cuttack, Dr Parshuram Mishra Institute of Advanced Studies in Education in Sambalpur, Dibakar Patnaik IASE in Berhampur, Nabakrushna Choudhury College of Teacher's Education in Angul, Nalini Devi Women's College of Teacher Education in Bhubaneswar currently carry 50 seats each.

These institutions require permission from NCTE to increase 100 more seats.

Similarly, College Of Teacher Education in Balasore and Bolangir carry 50 seats each and require approval from NCTE to increase the number of seats to 100.

Besides, NCTE is expected to give permission for admission to 100 seats each in UG CTE in Baripada, KDUV CTE in Bhanjanagar, DAV CTE in Koraput, Bhawanipatna CTE, Phakirpur AATC, Government Teachers Training College in Phulbani and Government BED training College in Kandhamal.

If these colleges don’t get NCTE’s nod for admission into 1400 seats in both general and self financing mode, only 50 students will be able to get admission to each of these colleges.
