9-5 job dying slow death, will be extinct by 2034: LinkedIn co-founder

Reid Garrett Hoffman, the co-founder and executive chairman of LinkedIn, has made a shocking prediction of the 9-5 job dying and becoming extinct by 2034. Interestingly, all his predictions have come true. Earlier, he had predicted the rise of social media in 1997, also predicted that social media networks would change the world, saw the sharing economy coming (early Airbnb investor) and called the AI revolution before ChatGPT.

Meanwhile, he has also predicted that the ‘Gig Economy Revolution’ is coming and it’s bigger than we think. As per his prediction, within a decade, 50% of the population will be freelancers and ear more than traditional employees.

Moreover, resumes will soon be forgotten and your online portfolio will be your new CV, he predicted. Companies will hire based on proven work, not degrees or job titles. It’s about building a personal brand that stands out in a sea of digital noise.

He has also predicted that the death of office HQ is coming and its happening faster than we think. Office space costs will plummet 40% by 2034 with companies going online with no physical office. For example- GitLab that has 1500+ employees in 65+ countries with no physical office.

The future of work isn’t just remote, but it will be hyper-local and global simultaneously. However, he highlighted that the extinction of 9-5 jobs isn’t a threat, but is a chance to redefine success. The future favours the adaptable, he added.
