  • BEOs have registered FIRs against several fake teachers and initiated disciplinary action.

The Odisha government has already initiated a process to identity bogus teachers who have managed to get employed in various schools by submitting fake certificates.

Raghuram R. lyer, Director of the Directorate of Secondary Education on Tuesday said that already the Block Education Officers (BEOs) have been directed to carry out detailed verification and lodge FIRs against such bogus teachers.

“BEOs have registered FIRs against several fake teachers and initiated disciplinary action. Many such teachers have been disengaged, terminated or dismissed,” said Iyer.

Iyer said following allegations that some teachers during their initial appointment had submitted fake certificates, instructions were issued to the BEOs to investigate and lodge police complaints against such impersonators, he said.

Senior officials said that recently a PIL has been filed in the Orissa High Court and the court has sought status report on the number of FIRs registered so far.

“We are preparing the status report and steps will be taken accordingly,” Iyer said.

When asked about allegations that the salary of some BEOs have been stopped, Iyer said that the officials have only been directed to take action on the matter.

S. Satpathy, Senior BEO at Balipatna said, “We had received instructions to verify certificates and inform the higher officials. A similar drive was also carried out last year. As we have to verify all submitted documents, it is a time taking process. We did not find any fake teacher last year.”
