The number of online scams is rapidly increasing due to advancing technology. Even iPhone users are vulnerable to these scams, but Apple is now providing guidelines to protect them.

The company updated its security document with tips on recognising and avoiding social engineering schemes like phishing and other scams.

According to Apple, you can protect yourself by following these tips:

  1. Check Email Authenticity: Verify email addresses to spot fraudulent emails that mimic legitimate companies.
  2. Avoid Pop-Up Ads: Don’t click on pop-up ads claiming your device has a security issue, as these are often fraudulent.
  3. Beware of Fake Support: Fraudsters may pretend to be Apple Support in calls or messages.
  4. Be Wary of Free Offers: Don’t fall for free product or prize promotions.
  5. Ignore Unwanted Invites: Decline calendar invites from unknown sources.

If you do fall victim to online scams, Apple advises:

  • Protect Personal Data: Never share passwords or security codes, and avoid entering them on unfamiliar websites.
  • Secure Your Apple ID: Use two-factor authentication, keep contact information updated, and never share your Apple ID password or verification codes.
  • Download Software Safely: Only download software from trusted sources.

For users in India, there’s a dedicated portal called Chakshu (Sanchar Saathi) to report cyber crimes and scams.
