In a shocking incident that has sparked widespread outrage, a youth was brutally assaulted by a group of miscreants near Budhiabar Chhak, close to Kalaghara, under the Sadar Police limits in Puri on Monday night. The victim has been identified as Babu Baral, a resident of Anki Patna within the same police jurisdiction.
According to eyewitnesses, a group of attackers intercepted Babu and launched a violent assault on him, leaving him profusely bleeding. The miscreants reportedly used sharp weapons and beat him mercilessly on the road.
The youth collapsed at the spot before locals rushed him to the Puri district headquarters hospital. As his condition worsened, he was later shifted to AIIMS Bhubaneswar, where he continues to battle for his life, sources added.
A disturbing video of the assault, showing the group thrashing the victim most inhumanely, has surfaced on social media. Police sources said preliminary investigation points to past enmity as the motive behind the attack.

Acting on a complaint filed by the victim’s wife, Sumitra Baral, Sadar police have arrested two of the accused while efforts are on to nab others involved.
The incident has raised serious concerns about the safety of residents in the temple town, with locals demanding immediate and strict action against the culprits to curb the growing menace of criminal activities.
