A youth from Odisha has been arrested for allegedly orchestrating a scam wherein he extracted over Rs 30 lakh under the pretext of providing an Indian Police Service (IPS) position to another youth from West Bengal.

The accused, identified as Kanha Patra, hails from the Srimannagar area under Nimakhandi police limits in Berhampur.
The accused reportedly struck up a connection with a young man from Birbhum, West Bengal, through the social media platform.

Posing as a high-ranking Inspector General (IG), Patra assured the victim of acquiring a job in the IPS rank.

A team of West Bengal Police took assistance from local police and nabbed the accused. He has now been taken on a five-day remand.

It is pertinent to mention here that a lot of unemployed youths are falling into traps of the fraudsters in different parts of the state.

In December 2024, Berhampur Police busted a major racket that looted crores of rupees from several job aspirants on the pretext of providing them jobs in government offices.

On December 19, Bidanasi Police in Cuttack arrested one person on the charges of cheating job aspirants worth crores of rupees by posing as a senior IAS officer from the Panchayati Raj and Drinking Water Department.
