In yet another development in the investigation into the mysterious disappearance of Mamita Meher, a lady teacher from the Mahaling Sunshine School in Kalahandi, her family members have reportedly identified the belongings of Mamita found near a body exhumed earlier on Tuesday.
The body was dug out at the site of an under-construction stadium near the school campus on Tuesday morning by a police team which is investigating the ‘missing’ case.
Police sources said that Mamita’s family members identified the gold chain, an anklet and a purse, which were found at the spot where the body had been buried, as those belonging to Mamita. She was wearing the ornaments and carrying the purse when she last left home around 12 days ago before she went missing.

Meanwhile, the family members alleged that the police misbehaved with them during the identification process.
However, the Bolangir police refuted the charges and said that the family members were only barred from taking photographs of the body.
“We have not misbehaved with the family members in any way. The body samples have been sent for DNA profiling in order to ascertain its identity. Till then the body is the property of the court. The family members were taking photographs of the body while identifying it and we only told them not to take photographs,” said DSP Batakrushna Mishra.
Meanwhile, Congress activists staged protest outside the Bhawanipatna police station alleging the involvement of Minister of States (Home) Dibyashankar Mishra in the incident. Mishra has come under the scanner for his alleged proximity to the president of the school managing committee, Gobinda Sahu who has been named the prime suspect in the disappearance of the lady teacher and her suspected murder. The party also demanded a CBI probe into the incident. Opposition BJP has also demanded the resignation of Mishra.
