The Commissionerate Police on Sunday managed to nab three members of an inter-state gang involved in loot from ATMs in different parts of the country, including Odisha. Initially, the cops managed to nab one notorious criminal from Bihar, identified as Deepak Kumar, after an encounter at a place near Badagada in Bhubaneswar.

Later, two more associates, Abhisekh Kumar and Dipak Pandey, who hail from Bihar and Jharkhand were also arrested.

ATM Loot Bid: Case Details

The Police Commissioner informed that ‘so far it has been ascertained that the criminals are involved in two cases in Bihar, one in Jharkhand and four cases in Odisha, including two each cases in Puri and under Commissionerate Police jurisdiction’.

The gang was reportedly involved in the ATM loot case in Kumbharpada area in Puri on January 3 and on March 9, 2025.

How The Gang Used To Operate

Senior officials of the Commissionerate Police informed that the criminals used to apply glue, due to which the ATM cards of the victims were getting stuck inside the machine. The gang used a poster mentioning some helpline number which was operated by other members waiting outside the ATM kiosk.

By this trick, they used to get access to the credentials and later used to withdraw money from the victim’s account using their ATM cards, police said.

More Members Suspected

The Twin City Police Commissioner informed that there could be more members of the gang and ‘already steps are being taken to seek contact with other state police regarding the criminals’.
