Sundargah: Rising above the religion and in a display of pure bonhomie, a Muslim man attended and helped perform the last rites of a Hindu man, who died of Covid-19 in the district on Saturday.

At a time when near and dear ones are not willing to attend the funeral apprehending catching the infection, Rahmat Ali has set example for others and his kind gesture has now become the talk of the town.

According to sources, one Sanatan Patel in Bandhapali area succumbed to the deadly virus on Saturday and his body was taken to Ranibagicha burial site for the funeral.

Along with the relatives, Ali, who was a good friend of the deceased, also came to the funeral site and helped perform the last rites.

“Despite being a Muslim, Ali along with other pallbearer chanted ‘Ram Nam Satya Hai’ during the funeral. His act justifies that friendship is above religion,” said Sidhant Panda, a staff of the cremation ground.
