With the daily Covid cases in the State heading to breach 5000 mark, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Monday has warned residents of the Smart City to strictly adhere to the prevailing pandemic norms or face a penalty of Rs 500.

The civic body announced the penalty in the backdrop of the city witnessing a sudden surge in Covid cases recently with 574 positive cases having been recorded on Sunday.

Taking to Twitter, the civic body wrote, “The new variant, Omicron has already spread its tentacles, and we need to stay even more cautious. Your cautiousness will help keep you out of danger.”

As far as the COVID appropriate behaviour is concerned, the civic body urged the people to ensure wearing a face mask while stepping out of house. Apart from that, it requested to keep away from unnecessary gatherings, maintain physical distance of two metres at public places and take all the two doses of COVID vaccine.

Issuing a stern warning to offenders, the BMC stated that Rs 500 will be collected from people found violating COVID norms in Bhubaneswar.

Meanwhile, 28 new cases of Omicron variant have been detected in Odisha as per the data shared by the Institute of Life Sciences (ILS), Bhubaneswar on Monday.

With the fresh cases, the total number of Omicron infection has reached 103 in the State.

Odisha is currently witnessing a steep rise in daily cases of Covid-19 infections. The State reported 4,829 new cases of Covid infections on Monday. It is for the second consecutive day that the daily count of Covid-19 breached the 4500 mark. On Sunday, the State had reported 4718 new Covid-19 cases.
