Bhubaneswar: The rapid spread of the second wave of Coronavirus infection in the Twin City has hit the Commissionerate Police hard with it’s over 210 personnel getting infected with the virus.

Police Commissioner Saumendra Priyadarshi on Saturday informed that more than 210 police personnel of the Commissionerate Police including 14 officers have tested positive. Out of the infected cops, 63 of them have recovered so far, he informed

As per reports, police personnel, especially those on surveillance duties, have been infected by virus.

“Barring a few, most of the affected police personnel are being treated while staying in home quarantine. Almost all of them had got the second jab of the Covid-19 vaccine earlier and they are now recovering fast. Police personnel need to be extremely careful and take all Covid-19 precautions while discharging their duty,” said a senior policeman.

 

Besides, as many as 71 fire service personnel have tested positive so far. “We have a very vital role during the pandemic. Fire services personnel are discharging important duties like transporting Covid-19 patients, supplying Oxygen and sanitising the affected places. Many of our colleagues have been infected by the virus,” said Chief Fire Officer, Maheswar Swain.

“However, most of them are recovering fast. Few of them have also joined duties and others are getting treatment while in home quarantine. But I urge one and all to be extremely careful while on duty,” added Swain.
