Bolangir: The district Legal services authority (DLSA) has initiated a probe into the reports of multiple bodies being cremated on one pyre at the Bijakhanan cremation ground due to shortage of space.

The exclusive report was first aired on OTV following which the Court of the district judge directed the DLSA to investigate the matter.

DLSA secretary Debasis Das and other officials visited the cremation ground and started investigation in the presence of sub-collector Lambodar Dharua.

The district administration had taken charge of cremating bodies of Covid victims. However,  half burnt bodies at the cremation ground were found lying, which was exclusively covered by OTV.

A stray dog feasting on a semi-burnt human skull was captured on OTV camera and aired on the channel exposing ground realities along with the cremation of multiple bodies on one pyre.

Locals had complained that bodies of Covid victims were left half-burnt at the crematorium due to lack of sufficient firewood. They had alleged that such a situation arouse due to lack of supervision.  

The OTV footage of dogs feasting on semi-burnt bodies went viral, drawing severe public resentment. The relatives of the victims had also expressed their grief over the denial of dignity to the deceased persons.

After the news was aired, both administrative and judicial inquiries were initiated separately.

On the other hand, taking serious note of the incident the district administration has started construction of another cremation ground on war-footing.
