One more person tested positive for the Omicron variant of Covid-19, taking the total tally of the new variant to nine in Odisha, informed the Institute of Life Sciences (ILS) to the State Health and Family Welfare (H&FW) Department on Wednesday.

The Omicron-infected person, a resident of Keonjhar district, had returned from Dubai on December 16.

As per reports, the returnee had tested positive with Coronavirus after his arrival to the State via Kolkata in a train. Since then, he was in isolation at his house. Later, his samples were sent for genome sequencing which confirmed he was infected with Omicron.

The parents and family members of the returnee were tested for Covid-19 twice after he was tested positive. However, they were found negative both times. 

The health condition of the returnee is stated to be stable, added reports. 

Earlier on Sunday, four persons found infected with the Omicron variant . Of the four Omicron-infected persons, three had returned from Nigeria while the other from Saudi Arabia. 

Odisha had first reported two cases of Omicron on December 21. The duo had returned from Nigeria and Qatar, respectively. 

Meanwhile, Odisha reported 221 cases, including 34 in the age group between 0 and 18 years, of Covid-19 on Wednesday, taking the positive tally to 10,54,381. With this, the State’s active caseload rose to 1,593. A total of 10,44,278 persons have recovered from the infection so far.
