Bhubaneswar: Odisha on Sunday reported its highest-ever single-day surge in new virus infections and mortalities with as many as 12852 people testing positive for SARS-CoV-2 and 28 people dying due to the disease in the last 24 hours.

As per the State Health Department, 7195 people were tested positive from quarantine centres while 5657 cases were local infections. Khordha district remains the worst-hit district in terms of both cases and fatalities. The district has reported 5 deaths and the biggest single-day surge of 1909 infections in the last one day. 

Kalahandi and Sundargarh both reported 4 deaths each while Angul and Kendrapara witnessed 3 deaths each. 

Cuttack has 1073 infections, the second most number of new cases among all districts followed by Angul with 874 cases and Sundargarh with 848 positives. 

The total number of fatalities in the State has now risen to 2484 while the cumulative infections have climbed to 692382. Total recoveries remain at 577983 and the active cases have touched 111862.
