Odisha continued to witness a significant drop in the number of daily Covid-19 infections with the single-day tally slipping below 5,000 mark on Saturday. The State logged 4,842 new infections in the last 24 hours taking the cumulative positive tally to 12,41,068, as per the Information and Public Relations (I&PR) Department.

As many as 15 patients succumbed to the disease which pushed the death toll to 8,575, informed the Health and Family Welfare (H&FW) Department.

Out of the total new cases, 671 were detected among the 0-18 years age group. A total of 2,809 cases have been reported from quarantine while 2,033 were local transmission cases.

Khordha district, which comprises the Capital City Bhubaneswar, reported the maximum cases at 1,253, followed by 443 in Cuttack and 210 in Nayagarh, respectively.

In terms of fatalities, while three deaths each were reported from Khordha and Ganjam districts, one each were registered from Angul, Bargarh, Cuttack, Kendrapara, Mayurbhanj, Nabarangpur, Nuapada, Puri and Rayagada.

The active cases stood at 58,533. As many as 10,511 patients have recovered on Friday taking the total number of cured patients to 11,73,907 so far.
