Odisha on Saturday reported 32 more cases of Omicron, taking the total tally of the new variant of Covid-19 to 202 in the State.

The Institute of Life Science (ILS), Bhubaneswar, informed the State Health and Family Welfare department about detection of the new Omicron cases after conducting genome sequencing of several samples sent to the institute. 

On Wednesday, the State had witnessed its biggest single-day jump (67) in the highly-transmissible Omicron variant of the virus.  

As many as 10,856 new cases of Covid-19 were reported in Odisha on Saturday. Of the new positive cases, 1021 infections were reported in the 0-18 age group.

Khordha district reported the maximum 3087 cases, followed by Sundergarh (1943), Cuttack (909), Sambalpur (500) and Mayurbhanj (376).

Meanwhile, the total number of Covid-19 active cases in the State now stands at 61,809 while 10,52,395 patients have so far recovered from the virus.

On the other hand, the State Public Health Director Niranjan Mishra has said people having no symptoms need not require tests unless they have co-morbid conditions.
