Odisha on Sunday reported 424 new cases of Covid-19, including 67 positives from the 0-18 year age group, and one death in the last 24 hours. Careful study of the Health department data suggests that this is the highest number of Coronavirus cases reported in a single day in the State after almost two months.

The State had last crossed the 400-mark on October 30, 2021, when 488 cases were reported in a single day.

Meanwhile, among the 424 new cases reported today, 249 have been detected from quarantine while 175 are local contact cases, the data released by the State Information and Public Relations (I&PR) Department informed on Sunday.

With this, the Covid-19 positive tally in the State has surged to 10,55,556 while the active cases stand at 2,078 and the number of recoveries 10,44,962 till date. The death toll due to Covid-19 has climbed up to 8,463.

Of the total new positives, the maximum 177 cases were detected from Khordha, followed by 45 from Cuttack, 38 from Sundargarh, 15 from Jharsuguda. The lone death case from the virus infection was reported from Khordha district.

Odisha so far has tested 2,55,84,629 samples, including 62,214 in the last 24 hours, for Covid-19. At present, the test positivity rate (TPR) stands at 4.12 percent, the I&PR department said.

On the other hand, Odisha has recorded as many as 14 cases of Omicron variant till now.
