Odisha: Police Face Locals’ Ire During Mask Checking In Bhadrak 

Bhadrak: Tension gripped Sukadebpur village under the Basudevpur police station here in the district after locals gheraoed police personnel during a mask checking drive on Sunday.

According to sources, police attempted to bring to book some youths who were found violating Covid-19 guidelines by roaming on the road without wearing masks. 

Moreover, the police also tried to penalise a biker for riding without helmet and mask, sources added.

Sources said the police enforcement irked over the the violators who attempted to gherao the cops following an altercation.

Later, the Basudevpur police penalised the youth and sent him e-challans charging them for violating Covid-19 norms.

“The villagers argued with police questioning if it was necessary to wear mask while standing in front of their house. But as the man was on the road with his bike, an online challan has been sent to him,” said Gouranga Sahoo, Basudevpur police station, inspector in-charge.
