Bhubaneswar: The Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Odishsa Assembly, Pradipta Naik, who has been undergoing treatment at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Bhubaneswar since April 20 after testing positive for Covid 19, is showing signs of steady improvement, hospital authorities informed today.
Naik who had been put on ventilator after his condition started sharp declining has now started speaking, informs AIIMS Medical Superintendent Sachidananda Mohanty. Naik is well responding to the treatment, he added.
The hospital superintendent who is among the team of doctors treating the senior BJP leader, had also earlier shared the improving status of Naik’s health three days ago.
The four-time MLA from Bhawanipatna, who was found infected with Covid-19 on April 20, has been undergoing treatment in the ICU at the premier health institute for the last three weeks.
Though he had tested negative for the contagious virus after few days of treatment, he suffered critical lungs infections due to the virus. Later, he was put on ventilator after his condition deteriorated with sharp reduction in oxygen saturation level.
A team of experts from AIIMS and SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack has been monitoring his condition round the clock since his admission.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, Union Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan had enquired his health condition from the AIIMS authorities.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik while enquiring about Naik's health condition, had earlier spoken to the doctors' team who is looking after the BJP leader.
The treating doctors had briefed Patnaik that there was widespread inflammation and severe lung infection due to which he was put on ventilator support.
Wishing his speedy recovery, Patnaik had requested the expert team to provide best treatment available and assured them of all government assistance in the treatment of the Opposition Leader.
