The daily Covid-19 cases in Odisha neared the 12,000 mark on Sunday as the State reported 11,177 new positive cases. It was for the fourth consecutive day that the State reported 10,000 plus daily Covid-19 cases.

Of the new 11,177 Covid-19 cases, 1016 cases were from 0 to18 years age group, tweeted I & PR Department. Khordha district reported highest 3424 cases of Covid-19 infections, followed by Sundargarh (2136), Cuttack (829), Sambalpur (379), Mayurbhanj (276) and Sonepur (238).

With this, the Covid-19 positive tally in Odisha has reached 11,33,912. While the active caseload in the State stands at 69,763, a total of positive patients have recovered so far.

Apart from the surge in the daily Covid-19 cases, Odisha is also witnessing a sharp rise in the cases triggered by Omicron, the new variant of the virus. As many as 32 news cases of Omicron were reported on Saturday, taking the total tally of the new variant of Covid-19 to 202 in the State.

On January 12, the State had witnessed its biggest single-day jump with 67 new cases of the highly-transmissible Omicron variant of the virus.
