Bhubaneswar: In view of the unprecedented second surge of Covid-19, Odisha Transports Department has fixed hiring charges of various types of ambulances operated by private hospitals and private operators in the State.

According to the notification issued by the transport department on Monday, small category of ambulances like Maruti Omni, Tata Magic and Maruti Eco etc. will charge Rs 750 up to 10 kilometres of distance. Similarly small ambulances with basic life support facilities will charge Rs 1,000 up to the same distance. These categories of ambulances will charge Rs 30 per additional kilometres exceeding 10 kilometres.

Meanwhile, medium category of ambulances like Mahindra Bolero will charge Rs 1,000 up to the distance of 10 kilometres. Similarly medium ambulances with basic life support system facilities will charge Rs 1,500 up to the same distance. These categories of ambulances will charge Rs 50 per additional kilometre exceeding 10 kilometres.

Large category of ambulances like Tata Winger, Force Traveller and Tata 407 etc. will charge Rs 1250 up to 10 kilometres. These categories of ambulances with basic life support system facilities will charge Rs 2000 up to the same distance. These categories of ambulances could also charge Rs 30 per additional kilometre exceeding 10 kilometres. Large category of ambulances with advanced life supporting system facilities will charge Rs 3,000 up to 10 kilometres and extra charges per additional kilometres.

The proposed maximum rates include Oxygen, ambulance equipment, PPE kit, gloves, mask, face shield, sanitisation, driver and emergency medical technician.

However, for administration of any medication (injectable/oral) including Oxygen on board, the additional cost is to be charged per actual.

The hiring charges of Patient Transport Ambulance (PTA), Basic Life Support (BLS) ambulance and Advance Life Support (ALS) ambulance shall be revised from time to time, based on changes in fuel prices in the State.

Any deviation of the fixed hire charges shall be dealt as per section 72 and Section 192 (A) of the Motor Vehicle Act, 1988.
