Ganjam: Odisha Director General of Police (DGP) Abhay on Saturday reviewed the ongoing enforcement drive of Covid-19 and implementation of lockdown and weekend shutdown in the districts under Southern Range.

During his visit to Berhampur today, Abhay discussed with the DIG and two SPs of the district regarding the enforcement measures at the Sothern DIG office. He reviewed the enforcement of lockdown and weekend shutdown, strengthening vigil on the inter-state movement from Andhra Pradesh by more stringent checks at border check posts. He also discussed the preparedness to ramp up police assistance further to tackle the spread of Covid-19 pandemic.

DGP also visited Golanthara, Gosaninuagaon, Chamakhandi and Ganja police stations and interacted with policemen engaged in enforcement duties and verified about their wellbeing and operational challenges.

According to reports, Berhampur police has acted against 8560 number of mask usage and social distancing rule violators and collected fine of Rs 19,39,300 since April 1, 2021. Two Additional SPs, three SDPOs and 10 inspectors are supervising enforcement activity in the district.

Similarly, Ganjam police has acted against 1,26,486 number of mask usage and social distancing rule violators and collected fine amounting Rs 73, 80, 500.

DGP also reviewed the sealing arrangements on Andhra Pradesh border. Border check posts connecting to Andhra Pradesh border is maintaining round the clock vigil at Girisola under Golanthara police station in Berhampur.

Notably, border check posts connecting to Andhra Pradesh are already active at Deviti, Patpatnam, Gopalpur Road, Sitasagar, Khinga Road under Paralakhemundi police station, Labanyagarh, Rampa under Garabandha police station, Hadubangi, Sitapur under Kashinagar police station.

“I congratulate Ganjam and Berhampur police for the satisfactory enforcement of Covid-19 guidelines in the areas. I also urge the people of these areas to strictly adhere to the imposed norms. They should stay at home safely during the lockdown period. If there is any urgency to come outside, they should use masks and obey the social distancing rules strictly,” said Abhay.
