Odisha on Thursday reported 65 new deaths due to Covid-19 infection taking the death toll to 5,768 in the pandemic. 

The maximum number of nine fatalities was reported from Khordha district, seven from Bargarh, six from Sundargarh, five each from Jharsuguda and Sambalpur, three each from Angul, Bolangir, Cuttack, Ganjam, Jajpur and Puri, two each from Bhadrak, Gajapati, Jagatsinghpur and Kendrapara and one each from Balasore, Dhenkanal, Kalahandi, Keonjhar, Koraput, Mayurbhanj and Nuapada.

“This list does not reflect deaths occurring on a particular day. It gives details of past deaths for which the death audit process has been duly completed and the cause of death has been identified as due to Covid-19,” the State Health department informed through its Twitter page.

The Covid positive tally in Odisha also rose to 9,74,132 after as many as 1,615 people tested positive for the virus on Thursday. The active cases in the State reached 17,262 while 9,51,049 patients have recovered, including 1,699 on Wednesday, from the disease so far.

Of the fresh Covid-19 cases reported from 30 districts, 937 are from quarantine centres, while the rest 678 are local contact cases, the data revealed by the I&PR Department stated.

Khordha district reported the highest 442 cases in the last 24 hours, followed by Cuttack (229), Puri (123), Balasore (98) and Jagatsinghpur (96).

The State has so far tested over 1,57,97,630 samples for Covid-19, including 78,740 in the last 24 hours.
