Continuing its upward trend, the daily Covid-19 tally in Odisha breached the 1000-mark for the second consecutive day on Saturday.

As per the data shared by the Odisha government’s I &PR department, 1065 new Covid-19 cases were reported from different parts of the state in the past 24 hours. On July 5, the State had registered 334 fresh daily Covid cases and the count crossed the 1000-mark for the first time after a gap of several months on Friday with 1043 new cases.

Of the total 1065 positive cases, 122 cases were in the age group of 0 to 18 years. Once again, Khordha district reported highest 361 new cases, followed by 135 cases in Cuttack district, Sundargarh (111) and Sambalpur reported 58 new Covid-19 cases.

With this the active Covid-19 tally in the state reached 5376 on Saturday.

In view of the steep rise in the Covid-19 cases, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has pulled up its socks to check the infection. The vaccination has been intensified and emphasis has been laid on doubling the testing rate.

The health officials on Friday informed that free administration of precaution dose to people aged between 18 and 59 has started in the State. As many as 2,320 centres have been set up across the State for smooth conduct of the vaccination drive.
