Bhubaneswar: Even though the daily Covid-19 infection cases are hovering around 10,000 for last several days in State, a top health department official said the situation is still under control.

Public Health Director Dr Niranjan Mishra on Wednesday said that the State’s situation is much better than the national average as it continue to witness less number of daily positive cases than the earlier prediction.

“We are witnessing less positive cases against our earlier prediction. We had earlier predicted around 1.5 lakh active cases by this time, but it is below 1 lakh. The number of daily positive cases is also under control,” Mishra said.

It is quite clear that the government’s measures yielded fruits. “We will have to more cautious to reduce the rate of positivity,” he added.

Mishra advised a simple method to break the chain of infection is to follow appropriate covid behaviour especially use of mask and social distancing.

In order to augment testing capacity, the government has already announced to set up more RT-PCR laboratories across the State. More testing will be carried out in coming days, he added.

Moreover, the government is also in the process to increase the ICU beds and oxygen beds in hospitals.

The talk of a possible third wave is only a prediction, which can only be checked with adequate pre-caution and appropriate measures, he pointed out.
