A day after Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik announced to bring COVID widows and orphaned children under Madhu Babu Pension Yojana (MBPY), Ashok Panda, the State for Social Security and Empowerment of PwDs informed that directions have already been issued to collect data for their inclusion.
Once included, they will be eligible for the pension and the Covid orphans will get Rs 500 per month as pension under the new section, MBPY-COVID.
On identification of the beneficiaries, Minister Panda said details of Covid orphans must be there at the blocks. The concerned department has already issued directions to collect data of those lost their parents to COVID and later on they will be included into the scheme, he said.

"As per the CM's direction, a child who has lost his parents to Covid or a woman who has lost her husband to the virus will be included into the scheme," he added.
CM Naveen on Tuesday emphasised early identification of women widowed by COVID and children who lost parents due to the infection in the state and bring them under the cover of social welfare schemes.
While reviewing the prevailing pandemic situation in the state, he directed to sanction the pension assistance to them under Madhu Babu Pension Yojana within the next 15 days.
Besides, he instructed administration to disburse three months of advance pension to all the beneficiaries under social security schemes keeping in view the prevailing pandemic situation.
