Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) in consultation with the Commissionerate Police on Monday changed the timings for wholesalers and retailers to operate in the Capital city’s largest market, Unit-I market.

As per the decision, from now on, the wholesalers coming to the market will be allowed to purchase goods from 3:30am till 6:30am. After that the retailers will be allowed to shop in the market till 12 noon.

The new arrangements will be applied on each weekday during the lockdown. No shopping will be allowed on weekend shutdowns, sources said.

The decision was taken in a joint meeting held on Monday by the Bhubaneswar municipal Corporation (BMC) officials, Commissionerate Police and representatives of various Market Committees.

Another decision to open the Unit-I market in a zigzag format was also taken in the meeting.

It is worthwhile to mention here that, while clamping a 14-day lockdown in Odisha, the State government had allowed shops at street corner, road-side shops, standalone shops dealing with food and essential items, vegetables, fish, meat and eggs and milk to operate on weekdays (Monday to Friday) between 6AM and 12 noon.
