In a slight relief for the people of Odisha, the daily Covid count continued to remain below the 2000-mark in the State for the sixth day in a row on Saturday.

Today the State reported 1,539 new Covid-19 cases, including 342 in the 0-18 age group, pushing the positive tally to 12,76,114 toll date, as per the Information & Public Relations (I&PR) Department.

However, the deaths due to infection continued to remain a cause of concern for the health authorities as the State confirmed 24 more fatalities, including a 21-days-old male child from Bhadrak district. The infant also suffering from prematurity and low birth weight, informed the Health and Family Welfare (H&FW) Department.

With this, the Covid-19 death toll rose to 8,862 in the State.

Among the fresh cases reported today, 897 are from quarantine while 642 are local contact cases. Khordha, including Bhubaneswar, reported a maximum of 223 cases followed by 124 in Sundargarh, 119 in Angul and 85 in Cuttack.

 

 

On the other hand, seven fatalities were reported from Khordha district (six from Bhubaneswar), six from Balasore, three from Jajpur, two each from Mayurabhanj and Bhadrak and one each from Angul, Bargarh, Nabarangpur and Puri districts.

 

 

The active cases in the State now stood at 13,285 while 12,53,914 patients have recovered from the disease so far, added I&PR Department.

A total of 2,83,55,937 samples, including 62,096 in the past 24 hours, have been tested in the State so far. The daily Test Positivity Rate (TPR) now stands at 2.47 per cent.
