Continuing with its downward trajectory, the daily Covid-19 count dropped below the 2500-mark in Odisha after 2106 new infections were reported from different parts of the State in the past 24 hours.

As per the State Information and Public Relations department, 324 new Covid-19 cases were reported among the 0 to 18 years category.

Of the 2106 new cases, Khordha district reported highest 429 new cases of Covid-19, followed by Sundergarh (219), Cuttack (145), Angul (97) and Kendrapara (76).

23 more Covid-19 deaths were also reported, taking the death toll to 8,734 in the State, informed Health and Family Welfare Department. The department, however, said that the list does not reflect deaths occurring on a particular day. It gives details of past deaths for which the death audit process has been duly completed and the cause of death has been identified as due to Covid-19.

On Saturday, COVID-19 tally rose to 12,64,705 after 2,603 more people tested positive for the infection. It was the lowest single-day spike since January 6.

Keeping in view several factors including the drop in daily Covid-19 cases, the Odisha government has already announced for resumption of physical mode of teaching in schools and colleges in the State. As per the decision, the schools and educational institutions are scheduled to reopen from tomorrow (February 7).

The Higher Education department had also instructed college authorities to initiate measures for reopening hostels from today.
