The Odisha government on Thursday ordered reservation of five per cent of beds in hospitals for healthcare workers and their family members for treatment of Covid infection.

“A reservation to the extent of 5 per cent of General Bed & ICU shall be made for Health Care Workers in the hospitals designated for the doctors and their family members for treatment of Covid Infection,” the State Health and Family Welfare Department said.

The Health department underlined that the Health Care Workers shall be considered as Covid Warriors and will be entitled for all benefits as per existing guidelines. 

The health department order which is a modification of its previous order also stressed on taking appropriate precautions in order to keep the health care system free from Covid infection.

“All the patients attending the IPD or OPD shall be screened by RAT test when suspected so that appropriate precaution can be taken at right time by which the Health Care System remain free from Covid infection, which will result in more capability for sustained provision of health care in Covid pandemic resurgence and prevent the reduction of man force for Covid management,” the health department said.

The department said the measures will help in maintaining preparedness for the possible third wave of Covid pandemic.

“The entry points to the hospital shall be screened by thermal detectors and sanitizers shall be provided. The Health Care Workers shall be provided with PPE and they shall follow Covid appropriate behaviour. Wearing a mask shall be mandatory for all without which the entry will be prohibited,” the health department added.
