A police personnel was suspended on Thursday for brutally kicking a minor tea seller at Kesura area under Sahid Nagar police station in the Capital City on Tuesday.

According to police sources, an investigation into the incident has been launched and two other police personnel have also been brought under its purview.

According to reports, while patrolling in a PCR van in the area on Tuesday the police team found the tea stall open after 1 am in clear violation of Covid-19 guidelines. Though a minor boy was present in the tea stall, the cops didn’t show any mercy on him. One of them started questioning and kicking the minor boy brutally for violating the pandemic guidelines. Even they took away some personal belongings of the poor boy from the stall.

The minor sustained critical injuries and was admitted to a hospital where his treatment is on.

The entire incident was captured in the CCTV cameras installed in the nearby areas.

After the incident came to the light, questions were raised on the excessive police action as the policeman was expected to issue challans instead of assaulting people in cases of Covid-19 guidelines violation. Tension erupted in the area and locals demanded stern action against the rogue police personnel.

Following the uproar, the Commissionerate police suspended the police personnel on Thursday and ordered an investigation into the incident.

“A probe has been launched. The accused PCR van personnel has been suspended and two others have also been brought under the purview of investigation. The PCR van belongs to Badagada police station,” said DCP Umashankar Das.
