Odisha witnessed its biggest single-day jump in cases of highly-transmissible Omicron variant of SARS-CoV-2 on Wednesday with 67 more people found infected with the virus.  

The Institute of Life Science (ILS), Bhubaneswar, informed the State Health and Family Welfare department about detection of new Omicron cases after conducting genome sequencing of the samples. With the new addition, the Omicron tally in the State has now climbed to 170.

Odisha today registered its highest one-day spike in the Covid cases in the last seven months detecting 8,778 infections, including 792 cases in the 0-18 years category in the past 24 hours.

As on Wednesday, the national tally of Omicron variant of COVID stands at 4868, according to the Union Health Ministry.
